1. What is the ideal age to train my puppy?
Puppies start to learn about the world around them at about 3 weeks of age when they are still with mum and littermates in the whelping box. By the time they arrive in their new homes at around 8-10 weeks, they have already learned a great deal, and are eager and ready for more. And they will be learning the minute they walk (or are carried) through that front door. So the ideal age to train your puppy is whatever age he/she is when you first bring puppy home.
The Puppy Associates puppy classes target a very important stage of your puppy’s learning development during which especially rapid learning occurs, a stage that extends to about 14-16 weeks.
2. How many sessions are included in the training?
The Puppy Associates course comprises of four classes over a set period of four weeks. Each class lasts for one hour.
3. What will my puppy learn in class?
Our trainers not only guide your puppy’s social interactions with other puppies and introduce basic manners training, they also teach you as the caregiver, how to provide the best environment for your puppy and how to train your puppy over the long term. We provide advice on toilet training, biting and chewing, and socialisation; we provide training goals and homework for each week; and we provide you with valuable resources to take home and read.
4. Can I bring my family along to the training?
Under normal circumstances, our trainers welcome and even encourage the whole family to attend the classes. However, under the current social distancing restrictions, we can only allow two family members to attend each class.
5. Where does the training take place?
The Puppy Associates classes are held indoors at participating veterinary clinics.
6. Can you help me with a specific problem we're experiencing with our puppy?
Most of the issues that puppy caregivers need help with are commonly shared by all puppy caregivers. Our classes are therefore designed to address these common issues. For less common issues that may not be shared by other class members, we offer personalised one-on-one sessions as a valuable adjunct to the group classes.
7. How many other puppies and owners will be in the class?
We may limit the class size depending on the current social distancing restrictions (under normal circumstances there would be a minimum of three puppies and a maximum of six).
8. I need support with an older dog, can you help still?
Yes! Our trainers offer specialised one-on-one training for caregivers of adolescent and adult dogs. For help and support with an adult dog visit Canine Wellness Coach to find out how Georgia can help you.
9. Will my puppy have to be fully vaccinated to attend?
No. To maintain the health and safety of our puppies, we require that each puppy be one week past their first vaccination. Prior to starting the course, puppies must be on a vaccination program for Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus. Puppies older than 12 weeks must also be vaccinated against Kennel Cough.
